Rules of Engagement

The No List
We don't eat dairy or gluten.

These two we are quite good at following and sticking to.  The more advanced stuff, the other grains and the beans are a bit trickier and will come in time.  So for now, just ask yourself:

Did it come from a cow at some point?

Did it come from wheat, oatmeal, barley or rye?

These are the biggies.  Luckily eggs come from chickens and are not dairy.

No
Sour cream
Milk
Cream
Half and Half
Whey
Yogurt
Butter - yes this includes butter and margarine
Ice cream
Frozen yogurt

Wheat
Whole grain wheat
Modified Wheat Starch
Oatmeal
Barley
Rye

The easiest way to avoid the overwhelming No list is to just stick to meat and vegetables and fruits.

Dear Dinner Providers

First let me say THANK YOU!

We appreciate you more than you can imagine.  Cooking for others can be daunting, even more so when there's food allergies involved.

I've created this blog with the hopes of helping you. I've included links, recipes, product recommendations and general guidelines. You're by no means limited to what's here and in this blog.  As its brand new, I'm sure its missing some things.  Including pictures.

We are open to suggestions and idea and comments.  As well as pictures.  If you cook one of our recipes I'd love to post a picture of it.

Thank you again!

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog. I'm putting this together to give some insight and guidance to the generous folks who plan to bring us a meal after New Baby Pless gets here We are currently working on becoming 90% paleo in our eating choices.

We're not there yet. It may take us a while to get there. But I can tell you that we feel better each day of this journey. Unless its a day like today and I have a cold. Bleh, it will pass.

To us paleo means no grain, no dairy, no legumes (although we plan to keep in peanuts) and no added sugar. So whats left? Oh let me tell you! We eat meat and veggies, and lots of 'em. We try to stay away from weird food, who wants to eat weird?

There are lots of resources out there that talk about the science behind a paleo diet. I'm not going to be one of them. I hope to get a links section up so that if you're interested you can see what all the hoopla is about. Thanks for taking the time to help us stay focused on our goals!
